A six-year-old girl has died after being hit by a speeding motorcycle in Dowa district.
Mponela Police Station Public Relations Officer Macpatson Maulana says the girl met her fate at Kasakula village in the area of Traditional Authority Kayembe along Nambuma-Kayembe earth road.
“The girl, who was a learner at Chimbalu Primary School, is identified as Florence Mphate from Kalowamchulu village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe District,”
“Brief facts of the accident are that, on the said date and time, the rider Yohane Frackson was riding an unregistered motorcycle Rico from the direction of Kayembe heading Nambuma and he was alone. Upon arrival at Kasakula village along Nambuma- Kayembe earth road, he hit the girl as she was crossing the road from left to right,” Maulana says.
Maulana adds,” Due to the impact, Florence Mphadwe (now deceased) sustained severe head injuries and she was taken to Nambuma Parish Mission hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.”
The rider, Yohane Frackson escaped unhurt while his motorcycle had no damages. Police in Mponela is advising all riders to desist from overspeeding.
