Community Celebrates Opening of Long-awaited Borehole; Courtesy of Hilal Afrika

Residents of Chikomba Village , Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza district celebrated the opening of a new borehole this week, marking a major milestone in their efforts to improve access to clean, reliable water.

Hilal Afrika, a non profit humanitarian aid organization based in Germany officially recently handover the villgers.

This follows a research done by organization in October 2022 which revealed that the area has been lacking access to clean, safe drinking water essential for human health and well-being.

“This borehole is going to make such a huge difference for our community,” said one of the local resident Mrs Maria Phiri . “Before, we were relying on well water that was often contaminated and made us sick. Now, we have a source of water that we can trust to be safe and clean.”

Speaking during the handover of the borehole, Hilal Afrika Malawi Project Manager Yusuf Muhammad Telela said it was sad to note that many communities in Malawi, face challenges in accessing clean water.

Telela commended the community for their support and cooperation during drilling of the borehole. He was confident that this new source of clean water will make a significant positive impact on the health and well-being of the community.

”At Hilal Afrika, we are committed to working towards a world where every community has access to clean water. We are proud to be able to support the community here by providing this borehole, which will provide a reliable source of clean water for the community”, he said.

Telela expressed hope that the borehole will serve the community well for many years to come, and I look forward to continuing to work with the community to address other important development challenges.

In her remarks Group Village Head woman Chikomba which has 28 villages hailed Hilal Afrika for the landmark project into her area.

She said, she was happy after she witnessed firsthand the struggles that many villigers have faced in obtaining clean, reliable water for thier families.

Group village Chikomba extended her gratitude to all of those who have made the project possible and urgented other organizations to emulate what Hilal Afrika has done.

The borehole has been constructed with funds from brother Christian, Butrus and Kilian in Germany through Hilal Afrika.

Hilal Afrika is a non profit humanitarian aid organization based in Germany which was established in 2021.
It has been operating in Malawi for the past two years. It provides various forms of humanitarian assistance and interventions including borehole drilling and sanitation, Qurban
distribution program, education as well as health.
