Wear Hijab, Be Typical Malawian Muslim Woman

Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. Looking good is not only important but is a MUST in Islam. The so-called fashions such as legs (pronounced as Legezi in Malawi), uni-sex clothing and denim jeans are prohibited in Islam.

To begin with, Islam does not condemn fashion but it should reflect to the true teachings of Islam because as we said above looking good is a must in Islam.

Wearing Hijab is not simply putting a piece of cloth on your head, rather it is an attitude. A way of thinking, and behaving as well as accepting yourself for who and what you are. We have to know that people will judge Islam by you that is why on the other hand, it is important to ascertain the motive for wearing Hijab. If you are wearing Hijab to please your husband, to impress people at the mosque, then you have to think it twice.

Hijab is a commandment and blessing from Allah (s.a.w) which  came in order to protect women from sexual abuse and other difficulties because in the countries where Hijab is commonly won you will see that even the rate of rape cases is quite low. However, as with everything else, you should wear Hijab to please Allah only and any other motive will not sustain that fervor.

Hijab allows you to do everything you want in life whether studying, working, etc provided it is allowed in Islam and we have to wear it at those places because it makes us check out behaviour continuously, preventing us from doing the things which is forbidden in Islam. Hijab also qualifies to be Islamic way of life, the statement which also reflects to the attitude.

It is a little bit pity to see well educated women in Islam without wearing Hijab even at work. Instead you will see them in tight jeans, putting on weave and the so-called wigs. What picture are you giving to the next generation? Will our daughters see the importance of wearing Hijab if we tend not to be role models? We have to know that Hijab also acts as an identity. For anybody to identify you as a Muslim woman you must wear Hijab. Hijab is not Sunnah is Allah’s obligation. So leaving your hair outside is against the will of Allah.

Allah knows best!

  1. It is very important if we can teach our mothers and sister how to wear hijab,my concern is that western culture has indeed eroded our Islamic values and rules.

  2. I agree with you. Hijab is not covering only your hair, because you will find some sisters wearing tight fitting clothing either trousers or skirts but covering their heads. Some will even wear see-through headcovers where you could actually see the shape and colour of their neck and ears, this is not hijab.

Just remember that when you dress in tight clothing showing every detail of your figure, the short dresses showing off your legs and feet, decorative and fragrant clothing all angers the Merciful and pleases Shaitan. Everyday that passes while you are in this condition, distances you further from Allah (SWT) and brings you closer to Shaitan. Each day curses and anger is directed towards you from the Heavens until you change and repent.

So sisters lets dress in hijab its only for our own good.

    • Thank you very much for your valuable and encouraging comment. It is indeed now time has come where our sisters are busy with western dressing forgetting the command of Allah. And when you advise them, they ask you the question: what is your problem? Mingd your business," So we really have problems which needs to be addressed accordingly.

  3. Hijab should be a priority of mother at home for female child. She should get used to cover her as she (the Mother) does.As she grows it will not call for a question why? when wearing a hijab.Men also are to be the inspectors on how a home is managed.Putting on hijab will mean the hijab is available. We shouls make sure that good clothes including head sculves are bought for our female family members. With this we can make a good home that is islamic.

Also women have to know how to make hijab more beautiful.Different styles have to be applied when wearing a hijab. This can encourage girls as most of females always seek for new fashion.Let us be practicle muslims.

      • It depends on the fairwell of a person yes. But still there is quiet range of prices for head sculves. Some can go at k150 up to k2500 around that.It is therefore difficult to assume that somebody who is religious concious will fail to have one even of low standard. What matters hear if not the quality or standard of hijab but possession and putting on. Thanks brother for your concern.

  4. AM DISAGREE TO JOSSAM'S STATEMENT ALWAYS WE SHOULD NOT POINT FINGERS TO WESTERN CULTURE, WE AS PARENTS ARE TO BLAME, WE ARE NOT SENSITIZING THIS TO OUR CHILDREN, HANCE WE NEED OUR CHILDREN TO ENJOY TOO WHICH IS VERY EMBARACING. VERY EDUCATED MUSLIM FAMILIES YOU CAN SEE THE DRESSING OF THEIR CHILDREN VERY SHAMEFUL. PLEASE LETS TRY TO CHANGE OUR BEHAVIOR AND TRY TO MOVE FORWARD

    • Certain bro,

Mentioning Westerners, sometimes is true but it's not necessary, because its not excusable. I agree with you when you say educated and well-to-do families' daughters do not dress well, that is the main problem in our Islamic community. When a non-educated Muslim sees that an educated Muslim woman is in her tight jeans, they easily follow her because of her high rank, forgetting that Hijab is not a rule from that particular woman, she is just one of the sinners on this earth.

O you well-to-do parents, let's teach our children Islamic morals. This is our responsibility as Allah will ask us about that. Prophet (saw) is reported by Umar (ra) to have said All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock. A woman is the shepherd of the house of her husband and she is responsible as is the servant in regard to his master's property." We are all responsible in all aspects of living. Let's take consideration on what the Holy Qur'an and Rasul (saw) taught us.

  5. They say their parents are rich so they have to wear very expensive clothes and a certain sister told me that it doesnt matter wearing Hijab provided she pray 5 times a day. So I wondered whether she enters into Masjid without Hijab.

I think we have a lot to do.

  6. Let's not just say abot wearing hijab as it is. The Muslim community needs to understand that hijab is not just about putting something that covers the woman's body. A unique hijab, a hijab that's not eroded by western culture, a hijab that is not affected by western influences on fashion, begins in the heart. If the heart is "hijabed", the muslim ummah today will not worry about traditions that influence women to don tight clothes or see-through. How do we achieve,I think by following the footsteps of the prophet SAW and how he lived with his families. If muslim families follow, the sunnah strictly, for sure they will have Iman. This Iman, will lead them in whatever they do, they would dress as muslims, eat like muslims, walk like muslims, talk like muslims, laugh like muslims and do everything, the sunnay way.

    • Thank you very much sister Binali for your well-narrated and valuable comment. Indeed the problem lies on who do we follow. Taking Quran as penal code and following the footsteps of our prophent (saw) I think can be best solution to all these problems. Once again may Allah grant you janat Firdaus for that good thinking.
