Youth NGO to implement “Aphunzire project” in Dowa

Tsogolo Youth Network with support from USAID through World Connection will implement a six months ” Aphunzire project” targeting secondary school students in Dowa district.

The Network will target 60 students who are documented to be poorly performed at Nanthomba secondary school located at the hub of Dowa boma.

The targeting of students is following their poor performance, lack of role model and mentors, unfriendly home environment for studying, lack of support from parents and guardians as well as high teacher to student ratios.

Speaking during a District executive council committee meeting held at the Dowa boma, the organization’s Founder and National coordinator, Tamandani Njoka, said the project ” Aphunzire ” will be focussing on education and economic empowerment for the students.

Njoka said the project has a goal of improving the academic performance of the 60 students at Nanthomba Secondary School advocating for friendly environment, mentorship and career guidance , mentors and role models by April, 2022.

“The project stakeholders are chiefs, for location of homes, parents for providing a friendly studying environment and teachers for tracking performance” Njoka said.

She said the project is expected to increase the number of students with improved academic performance, friendly home environment for students to study and students with mentors and role models.

The coordinator expressed hope and confidence that the clubs established at Nanthomba Secondary School which will be supervised by the school authority will ensure that students are sharing tips on how to perform well in class, their patron or matron will make sure that mentors or role models are in touch with them.

In his remarks, Dowa District Nice Trust Civic Education Officer, Vincent Mbenjere urged the youth organization to reach out to all the youth in the district other than concentrating in one area and one traditional authority alone.

Mbenjere expressed hope that the project will achieve its intended outcome if successfully implemented, urging the youth of the district to support it.

Started as a youth club in 2018, Tsogolo Youth Network has trained, connect and work with youth clubs towards the achievement of quality education, decent work and economic growth in Malawi.
