The Assistant Academic Registrar of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Mr Ssemakula has challenged Malawian students at the institution to work hard in their studies to receive academic awards.
In his remarks, Mr Ssemakula who is
also the patron of Islamic University Malawi Students Association says , the students are well disciplined but they are supposed to fight for academic awards.
“You have all what it takes to receive awards at the end of your studies. Just work hard in your studies, you will receive one of the awards,”
“Sometimes, I don’t understand why only Somali students receive the awards. I want Malawian students to be receiving these awards too” he said.
Fahad Mtupa,a final year Malawian student pursuing Bachelor of Laws (LLB) urged the students to know what brought them to IUIU and work hard to achieve their dreams.
Mtupa said the institution can be both a good or bad place depending on how one is behaving.
He said for students who want to realise their academic dreams, IUIU is a best place to be.
Islamic University in Uganda has over three awards that are awarded on graduation day. Among others are Prince Kakungulu award which is given to best academic performer (a Muslim), Alumni award which is given to second best student irrespective of religion and the International Islamic Charitable Organisation award which is given to best female Muslim student among others.
IUIU has over 30 Malawian students pursuing various programs such as Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Statistics, Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication, Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Nursing Sciences and Bachelor of Logistics and Procurement Management.
