Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) says Majlis Ulama (Council for Muslim Theologians) in the country is revising the ‘Chichewa’ Translated Qur’an in order to publish the second edition.
In a statement issued by MAM and signed by its Chairman Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad, the task is one way of preserving the Holy Book.
“As one way of preserving the Holy Book of Qur’an. The Muslim Association of Malawi wishes to inform the general public that Majlis Ulama (Council for Muslim Theologians) in the country has commenced the work on the revision of the Chichewa Translated Qur’an which was translated by Late Sheikh Khalid Ibrahim (May Allah have Mercy on him) ” reads a statement.
According to a statement, the current ‘Chichewa’ Translated Qur’an has been in use for the past 17 years hence the need for it to be revised.
“The work of translating the Qur’an into Chichewa took a period of 10 years under the supervision of Majlis Ulama in Malawi. In 2002 , the Chichewa Translated Qur’an was printed at the Complex of King Fahad for printing of the Holy Qur’an in Madina in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,”
“Since then, the Qur’an has been in use for a period of 17 years. Majlis Ulama therefore sees the importance of having the Chichewa Translated Qur’an revised in order to publish the second edition,” reads a statement.
MAM has also commended people of good will who printed and distributed the Holy Book in the past years for the benefit of people who speak ‘Chichewa”.
However, MAM has urged those who need to print and distribute the ‘Chichewa’ Translated Qur’an in the future not to do so until further notice.
“The Association also appreciates those that will be printing and distributing the same in the future. However, realising that every work has its responsible authority , The Association therefore would like to urge all those willing to print and distribute the Chichewa Translated Qur’an not to do so until further notice,”
“The Association further requests that whosoever wishes to print the Chichewa Translated Qur’an to seek permission or notify the Majlis Ulama through the office of Muslim Association of Malawi. This is done in order to protect the pristine purity of the meaning of Qur’an as translated by Late Sheikh Khalid Ibrahim (May Allah have Mercy on him)” reads a statement.
