President Peter Mutharika says the alliance of ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) will win the forthcoming fresh presidential elections.
Mutharika made the remarks today when he was submitting his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in Malawi’s commercial city of Blantyre.
In his candidacy speech, Mutharika said DPP-UDF Alliance is unstoppable and will win the fresh elections with landslide.
Mutharika announced that UDF president Atupele Muluzi is his runningmate.
He said Muluzi is a perfect person to work with and together they will continue developing the country.
“Muluzi understands that leadership comes with responsibilities. He has shown resilience, humility and a commitment to the security and unity of our nation.
“He is determined to continue to support my legacy of investment in education, infrastructure; together we will be the bridge to the future,” he said.
Political parties in the country went into electoral alliances to manage the 50+1 winning law ordered by the Constitutional Court.
Yesterday, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Lazarus Chakwera submitted his nomination papers and announced that State Vice President who is also UTM party President Saulos Chilima is his runningmate. MCP and UTM party also signed an electoral alliance.
