Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) says it is not organizing National Eid-Ul-Adha outdoor prayers event this year due to 3rd wave of COVID-19 pandemic and has asked all Muslims in the country to pray in their respective mosques while adhering to the measures put by Malawi government.
MAM spokesperson Sheikh Dinala Chabulika has confirmed the development in an interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website.
Malawi Muslims did not go to perform Hajji due to limitations of the number for pilgrims set by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
Just 60,000 people, all citizens or residents of Saudi Arabia, have been selected to take part in this year’s hajj, with foreign pilgrims again barred.
The mask-clad faithful, who had spent the night in camps in the Valley of Mina, converged on Mount Arafat where it is believed the Prophet Mohammed delivered his final sermon, for the most important of the hajj rituals.
Eid prayers (Eid Fitr and Eid Adha) offer Muslims a chance to gather and share various issues that benefit Islam and Malawi as a nation. The scenario is different as Muslims have been forced to perform Eid Adha in their respective Mosques due to COVID-19. Muslims in Malawi will perform Eid Adha on Wednesday, 21st July, 2021.
