Nominations are now open for the first ever The Malawi Muslim Awards, to be presented on Eid Day this year.
Malawi Muslims Official Website established the Muslims Awards in 2013 to recognize, acknowledge and celebrate those Muslim individuals, communities, entities and organizations who are continuously contributing to the Muslim community, and humanity in general, while leaving a great positive impact in Malawi.
Nominations are open until midnight on Friday 20 Ramadhan 1435 and a special website has been set up to enable people to find the information about the event easily as well as enabling them to nominate, sponsor or buy tickets online.
“We have tried to use technology as much as we can in order to reach many people so that they can be able to nominate their preferred nominees. It is expected to be a red carpet event to be held at College of Medicine Sports Complex where many dignitaries are expected to attend.
“We have about 15 categories where people are expected to nominate Muslim business woman of the year, Sheikh of the year, Nasheed Artist of the Year, Muslim politician of the year, Dawah group of the year, Secondary school of the year and many other categories ,” says Ismael Ntenje who is Secretary General of the organising committee.
Ntenje therefore said people can nominate through online form which is available at its website created just for the function at https://www.malawimuslims.com/awards/.
“They can also buy tickets or sponsor the event online using Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba,” he added.
A special programme has also been set up on Radio Islam which is expected to be aired during Iftaar and probably to be rebroadcast during Sehr from July 2.
The event has also a dedicated Twitter account @muslimawardmw and Facebook page which is https://www.facebook.com/malawimuslimawards.
“We have introduced gate fees because we want to control the number of people as the space is limited. By looking at the nature of the event and the people who are expected to attend, we din’t have any option but to sell tickets. Therefore, we have two sections, one for ordinary seats and another one for VIP – difference of charges are indicated at https://www.malawimuslims.com/awards/. The money we are going to collect will not go into somebody’s pocket but we want to use it for a charity,” says Marshall Dyton CEO of Malawi Muslims Official Website who is also Publicity Secretary for the main organising committee.
Dyton also explained that all donations can be done on the Award’s official website.
“To ensure transparency and accountability, all donors and sponsors will be listed on the website with their amount or kind of materials contributed. For those who don’t want to be mentioned, we will put anonymous but their contribution will be indicated. A financial report will as well be available online within a week after the event for all sponsors and donors to download,” he said.
The PS further said apart from the website, all sponsors will be listed on all social media platforms as well as radio announcement.
