Apostle Khoviwa Urges Malawians to Respect Their Leaders

Presidential Advisor on Religious Affairs Apostle Timothy Khoviwa has asked all people in the country to respect their leaders.

Apostle Khoviwa said this in an interview with reporters in Mangochi after Eid al-Adha prayers where he went to deliver Presidential Eid Al-Adha Message to Muslims and also reiterate the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-led government’s commitment to respect and work well with all religious groupings.

Khoviwa said he was moved with a sermon delivered by Sheikh Ikram which said according to Islam, people are encouraged to respect their leaders. He said this is also exactly what the Bible commands its followers.

“The Bible orders us to respect our leaders and it is also good to see that Allah also encourages the same. So, castigating leaders like the President of this country by saying this country is led by educated fools is something that should not encouraged. We have to learn to respect our leaders,” he said.

This comes after Malawi opposition leader Dr Lazarus Chakwera is allegedly to have said there are a lot of “educated fools” in the country, the statement which other people understood as an attack to the current President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika being the leader of this country. He was speaking at Transformation Alliance (TA) convention in Blantyre on Friday last week.

This did not go well with other Malawians with some saying being a religious leader, Dr Chakwera was supposed to be exemplary to his fellow leaders.
