President Dr Lazarus Chakwera on Tuesday 7th March held bilateral talks with a number of World leaders and heads of international institutions on the sidelines of the fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC 5) in Doha, Qatar .
Among others, he had discussions with European Union (EU) Commissioner for International partnership Ms Jutta Urpilainen where President Chakwera appealed for the resumption of the budgetary support as one way of improving Malawi’s economy.
The EU Commissioner assured the president that EU will continue supporting Malawi government in education sector and strengthen their partnership.
The President said the meeting was of great importance as they discussed a number of projects citing the establishment of regional transport corridors to connect Malawi and other neighbouring countries under the global gateway among others .
Earlier the President met with Director General for Smart Africa Initiative Mr Lacine Kone where they discussed issues to do with Socio economic development through Information Communication and Technology (ICT).
The president is expected to hold various meetings with world leaders and heads of international institutions later this week.
