When a picture of the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) national chairman Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad holding hands with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan went viral on social media, people thought it was a mere photo.
But that handshake had hundreds of opportunities because the Muslim leader was there for serious business.
The MAM Chairman says his trip to Turkey was fruitful as he lobbied Turkish entities to bring various projects in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website upon his arrival from Instabul, Turkey , Sheikh Idrissah says, the trip opened opportunities between Malawi and Turkey.
The MAM Chairman says his team managed to meet four organisations that are interested to bring developmental projects in the country.
“And these are not ordinary organisations. They are statutory corporations. That is why it will no longer be about Masjid only. We will now concentrate much on sustainable solution to education, energy and agriculture. It was really a fruitful meeting,” he says.
Sheikh Idrissah says, soon he will engage the government on the same because the projects will cater the needs of all Malawians.
“You can’t do anything without the government . We have to brief them on what we have and then we see the way forward because although we are an Islamic organisation,some of our projects always assist everyone regardless of his or her religious affiliation,” says MAM Chairman.
The chairman was attending a five-day African Muslim Leaders Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.
The 3rd international Summit, which has been represented by 42 African countries was organised by the presidency of the religious affairs.
