Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has condemned the post-elections violence that is taking place in other cities in the country.
Speaking to Malawi Muslims Official Website on Friday, MAM Spokesperson Sheikh Dinala Chabulika said there are better ways to lodge concerns rather than disturbing peace in the country.
“Malawi is a peaceful country. Elections come and go but Malawi will always be there as a country,” said Chabulika.
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters have been staging protests as one way to show their dissatisfaction with the outcome of May 21’s elections which saw Professor Peter Mutharika re-elected as Malawi’s Head of State.
Unfortunately, the protests have turned ugly in other parts of the country.
MEC declared President Peter Mutharika winner of the controversial elections at 38.6 percent. MCP’s Lazarus Chakwera came second at 35.4 percent while Saulos Chilima of UTM was third with 20 percent.
The protests still continue despite the party presenting their grievances to court which is yet to tackle it.
Chabulika said it is not understandable to lodge a complaint in court and at the same time protesting even before the court’s outcome.
He said: “You cannot lodge your concerns to the court and conduct demonstrations. That’s court interference because now you are trying to influence the court. Do one thing at a time and let Malawi move.”
