Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) on Friday handed over an Islamic Centre at Msonde Village TA Chikwewo in Machinga district.
This is third Islamic Centre built by the Muslims’ umbrella body in the year 2017.
The centre, worth 40 million Malawi Kwacha is comprised of two-classroom block, administration block, hostels, a masjid and a clinic.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Abdulkarim kachulu who was managing the project who is also MAM’s committee member for Machinga said he was very happy that the dream finally came true.
He thanked the national chairman Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad for attending their request.
“When we talk about Islam in this country, Machinga is considered to be number two in terms of population. Yet, if you go deep in rural areas like this, people have no good masajid and other Islamic facilities. But today we are very happy to receive this gift from MAM,” he said.
However, Kachulu also requested for electricity, a borehole and a brick fence at the centre.
In his remarks, the national chairman said it is a dream of MAM to see all Muslims having access to quality education, health as well as better praying facilities.
“This is why so far, we have completed over 100 masajid and three full Islamic Centre and we still have more developments coming,” said Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad.
He therefore asked the community to take care of the facility.
He said: “This is your thing and will remain yours. Therefore, you have to take care of it. If there is something needed for maintenance, contribute and sort it out. Don’t wait for us from Blantyre to come and fix for you.”
On the other requests the community made, the national chairman said will look into it.
