The initiative was rolled out on September 1, 2021, at Arthur Peter Mutharika, Bakli Muluzi, Monkey-Bay, and Makanjira roads, Mangochi Police Spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi says.

“The team which jointly comprised of traffic, general duties and Mobile Police officers was led by the Station Traffic Officer, Assistant Superintendent Raphael Kalulu. The team manned the places to ensure that road users are following road safety measures and targeted motorists and motorcyclists since most of them are losing their lives through road accidents,” Daudi says.

She adds,” Among the offences the motorists and motorcyclists were fined are uninsured motor vehicle, operating without road service permit, exceeding carrying capacity, unregistered motor vehicles, driving without licence, over speeding and riding without a crash helmet.”

According to statistics, during the month of August 2020, the Station recorded 20 road accidents and seven people lost their lives while the same period this year eight road accidents have been recorded and two people reported dead.

The Station will continue with the initiative until road users are complying with the road traffic regulations on the roads of the district.
