Misyaje who is a Co-Founder at Environment Friends LTD, a non-profit organization that is aimed at advocating for environmental conservation and good public health in Zomba city told Malawi Muslim Website that the initiative needs to prevent inmates at the central prison to contract the deadly COVID-19.

“The initiative that I am working on now is involving inmates at Zomba Central Prison. The current population of inmates is alarming since there are over 2340 prisoners which could be a hotspot for the virus due to the living conditions of the prisoners,”

“The aim of the initiative is to support the inmates with materials that will help in the prevention and fight against the pandemic COVID-19. The materials that are planned for distribution are water dispensing pails and hand sanitizers,” she told Malawi Muslim Website.

Misyaje says the amount of money needed to execute the initiative is K 300, 000.

“I am looking for support, be it money or materials that will help in ensuring that the initiative is a success. Those who would like to volunteer are welcome as well . The event is set for 1st June ,2020,” she says.

Misyaje says she has joined the battle against COVID-19 because everyone has a role to eliminate the pandemic.

“I believe that it is everyone’s duty to take part in this fight against the pandemic. I have chosen to work with the prison for the reason that we may be free out here and have materials for protecting ourselves or preventing the virus ,but someone somewhere in the prison is lacking the materials for preventing the virus leaving them vulnerable,”
