Muslim professionals in Malawi are meeting in Liwonde this afternoon to discuss about what they call ‘The lost decades.’
The 2-day workshop, which comprises of professionals from different fields, is a continuation of the 31st December session which was held in Limbe.
Today’s workshop is taking place at Sun Village Hotel and it was scheduled to start at exactly 2pm.
It is expected to end tomorrow morning.
According to the Publicity Secretary Hassan Nkata, in the past, Muslims had a programme called ITP (Islamic Taribiyah Programme) where Muslims were discussing activities they have done and achieved in their community and their plans.
“This is a planning workshop. As you know, we have stayed for 2 to 3 years without ITP. So, people thought that it is good that we should take a step further by coming up with a forum which would look at these lost decades and see what we can do to avoid the repetition of the same in future,” said Nkata.
“Overall, what we are going to achieve from this workshop, will be communicated to the masses as it is not just for us, but the entire Muslim community,” added the publicity secretary.
At the first workshop, where the Muslim Association of Malawi General Secretary Dr Salmin Omar was present, members put the Islamic organizations and their activities under scrutiny by looking at their sustainability.
It is on this day workshop when the Muslims’ mother body was rated as ‘threatened’ meaning it has no future due to the financial constraints currently rocking the organisation.
The renowned public speaker and Chancellor College lecturer Dr Ronald Mangani is the one facilitating the programme.
