A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to complete technical and economic feasibility studies for implementing the first cultural and entertainment project as part of the giant Makkah Gate scheme was signed in the presence of Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal. Makkah Gate Company (MGC) and Ruay National Company signed the deal at the Makkah governorate recently.
Fahd Al-Shimaymri, chairman of Ruay National Company, said that the project would be implemented on an area covering 800,000 square meters in a region located outside the Haram boundary. It is regarded as an educational, cultural and recreational project.
The governor laid the foundation stone on June 1 for the western suburbs of the Makkah Gate project along the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway. Covering an area of 1.5 million square meters in Shumaisy region, it is the first project of MGC.
The Makkah Gate scheme is part of a comprehensive strategy to develop the region.
“It is designed to accommodate 600,000 people and will be a natural extension of Makkah,” said Makkah Mayor Osama Al-Bar, who is also chairman of MGC. The scheme includes a university, medical centers, a national park and a comprehensive entertainment and educational complex in addition to cultural facilities, museums and heritage centers. The public and private sectors will join hands to implement development projects according to a structural plan. This includes residential areas, public parks, mosques, service centers, entertainment and educational and health services.
