President Dr Joyce Banda has nullified all processes going on around the 2014 elections and has ordered a rerun within 90 days. She will however not participate in the rerun.
President Banda said this when addressing reporters at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
20 May elections nullified based on constitutional powers vested in the president.
This is following the irregularities which have marred by the elections. Yesterday, Malawi Electrol Commission admitted anomalies.
This means that she will remain president of Malawi for the next three months until a new president is elected and sworn in.
She has since ordered the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to stop the counting of votes.
It is unclear as to whether the law gives her the powers to nullify an on going electoral process.
