Police are looking for unknown assailants who raped and mercilessly strangled to death a 39-year-old woman during the night of 24-25 April 2020 at Chipaka village in the area of Sub Traditional Authority Mwancheka Matapila in Mponela, Dowa District.
Mponela Police Station Publicist Macpatson Msadala has identified the disease as Magret Malingamoyo, of Kashangula Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponera in the same District.
Msadala says Magret’s body was found in a maize field on April 25,2020.
“It is reported that on April 25, 2020 at around 5 pm, a certain man (Name withheld) who was going to his maize field saw a green plastic woman’s shoe and a piece of cloth (Chitenje). Upon looking around he saw marks of violence and later discovered a dead body which he identified as Magret Malingamoyo,” he said.
Police officers together with a clinical Officer from Mponela Rural Hospital visited scene of crime and postmortem conducted upon viewing the dead body which was found half dressed , tied on the neck with under wear with marks of violence at the scene established cause of death to be due to internal bleeding and suffocation secondary to strangulation after being raped.
Police in the district are appealing for information that will assist to arrest of the suspects.
