Mpondasi Full primary School Storeroom was set ablaze by unknown culprits and school property worth millions of kwachas has been destroyed.
Mangochi police station Public Rations Officer Rodrick Maida says the incident occurred on August 8, 2020 at about 1300hrs at village Saitikadzuwa in traditional authority Mponda in Mangochi.
According to head teacher of the school Mr. Steven Sikawa during the time of the incident he was alerted at his house within the campus by a passer-by and upon arrival at the scene he saw flames of fire in the room that prompted him to shout for help.
Maida says good Samaritans responded but it was already too late since the fire had already consumed textbooks, balls, radios, plastic chairs, megaphone,cartons of chalk, chalkboards,ink pads, iron sheets, cabins,plastic pails and basins, first aid kits, doors,atlas, metal book cases, exercise books, hard covers, charts, pental markers,files and hard boards.
“Investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire, perpetrators and their motive,” Maida says.
