Today, the Islamic Health Association of Malawi (IHAM) and Ministry of Health have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to uplift the standards of Muslim health providers in the country.
IHAM Executive Secretary Hajji Daitoni has confirmed the development in an interview with Malawi Muslim Website.
“Yes, the Islamic Health Association of Malawi (IHAM) signed the historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ministry of Health,”
“This will pave the way for all Islamic health providers to tap into Government funding for staff salaries, drugs and trainings among others,” he told Malawi Muslim Website.
Daitoni says five establishment have already qualified and will start benefiting soon.
“This is a great achievement for Muslims and Islam in Malawi,” he says.
Secretary for Health, Dr Charles Mwansambo represented the Ministry of Health during the event.
In December , 2019, IHAM in conjunction with Physicians Across Continents (PAC) through Ministry of Health organised a medical camp to offer free surgical services at Nkhotakota district hospital.
Daitoni told Malawi Muslim Website that the specialist doctors from four countries carried out surgeries in endocrinology (goitre), urology, and pediatrics to less previleged Malawians in the district.
“We have received foreign specialist doctors from Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Sudan,” Daitoni told Malawi Muslim Website.
The medical camp benefitted several people in Nkhotakota district and surrounding areas.
