An 8-month-old baby, Malitaso Kadyankena has drowned in a water bucket at Kawale in Lilongwe.
The incident occurred on October 7, 2021, according to Kawale Police Station Public Relations Officer Prisca Kuyera Mtikwa.
According to Mtikwa, on the material date and time, his wife went to draw water, leaving the baby sleeping inside their house.
“On her return, mother got surprised to see her child in the bucket which had full of water. The matter was reported to Kawale police who rushed to the scene and took the dead body to Kamuzu Central Hospital. Postmortem confirmed that death was due to suffocation,” she says.
Kawale police is advising parents and guardians to avoid leaving children alone, rather, they leave their wards with someone whenever they are going away.
Malitaso Kadyankena hailed from Masankhawa village, Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe District.
