A 3-year old girl has died after being hit by a motor vehicle as she was crossing the road at Lwangwa Primary School on the morning of 4th April, 2022.
Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi has confirmed of the accident and identified the deceased as Nisha Master from Masanga Village Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi District.
According to Daudi, the accident involved a Mercedes Benz registration number BW7914 was being driven by Joseph Nomale, 54, a member of Parliament for Chiradzulu East Constituency from the direction of Mangochi heading towards Monkey-Bay.
“Upon arrival at Lwangwa Primary School due to overspeeding, Nomale lost control of the motor vehicle and hit the minor who was crossing from right to left side of the road where Nisha sustained severe head injuries and multiple fracture and was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital where death was pronounced upon arrival,”said Daudi.
Nomale is currently in Police custody waiting for court proceedings as Police in the district are appealing to all road users to always follow road safety measures to avoid such accidents.
“We are also advising parents and guardians not to allow their tender aged children crossing the roads without being accompanied or supervised,” Said Daudi.
