The Qadria Muslim Association of Malawi (QMAM) says it is totally against the attempts to legalize homosexuality in the country.
QMAM Publicity Secretary Maulana Abubakar Panchi says the organisation has put in place measures expressing its disagreement against the move.
“We have engaged our Ulamas, Sheikhs, Imaams to preach in their Mosques topics concerning the evils and punishments of homosexuality,” Maulana told Muslim Media Agency.
Panchi adds : “We as Muslims should hold on to the Qur’an and Sunnah, and narrate to our young ones the story of the Prophets including of that of Sayyiduna Lut(Alaihi Salaam).”
QMAM advises the government to not tolerate the people breaking the law.
“Practicing homosexuality in the country must not be accepted. Let us keep our tradition and culture intact,” he says.
The Constitutional Court of the High Court will be sitting on 5th June, 2023 in Blantyre to determine where the organization’s promoting same sex relationships should be legalized in Malawi. If the court passes the decision that the Government can start registering such organizations, it will mean legalizing same sex marriages/relationships in the country.
