State President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharka has dismissed reports that have been circulating in the media that his government is prosecuting former President Dr Joyce Banda.
Mutharika said this during a programme called Tilankhule ndi a Malawi which was aired on state broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on Tuesday around 8pm.
He said reports that his government is prosecuting the former President are not true and he even challenged those who are saying this to come and investigate themselves the truth of the matter.
The State President also said that he has not talked with her predecessor for a long time. He said that the last he talked to her is when they were making funeral arrangement of his brother former President of this country the late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika.
He, however said he still offer her an olive branch to forget about what happened in the past and work together because we are all Malawians.
Dr Joyce Banda left Malawi after losing to the current President Professor Arthur Mutharika in the May 2014 tripartite elections, since then she has never returned back a thing that has caused a lot of speculations that she is afraid to come for fear of being arrested because of the cash gate scandal which took place during his reign of power.
Her long absence in the country has also created divisions in her party the People’s Party (PP) that some members from the northern region has elected her former vice president Khumbo Kachali as interim leader of the party.
There has not been an immediate comment from the former President on what the President has said.
