BLANTYRE: The 2011 national ijtima is expected to be held at Njamba Park in Blantyre , Malawi Muslims Website reports.
According to the chairman of the Blantyre District organising committee Ishmail Kazembe, the three day annual gathering will, God willing, be held from October 28 – 30, 2011 under the theme: “The Past, The Present And The Future Of Muslims in Malawi”.
“Our expectation is that this year’s ijtima will brainstorm the problems and challenges that Muslims face in Malawi and devise a unified approach on how we can collectively tackle them,” said Kazembe.
In a separate interview, the committee’s head of protocol, Yusuf Sambo, said that they are expecting about 10,000 participants from across the country including visitors from Tanzania and other neighboring countries.
“We are also making arrangements for Mufti Ishmail Menk and Dr Khalid Yaseen to grace the occassion,” added Sambo, “it will all depend on the logistics side of it…but nothing is confirmed yet.”
Meanwhile, the committee is calling upon well-wishers to positively respond to their fundraising initiatives and realise the full budget so that this year’s ijtima should become a success.
