32 people have been admitted at Mangochi District Hospital for suspected food poisoning.
The victims are believed to have taken poisoned food at a funeral ceremony on February 22, 2020 at Makunganya Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chimwala in the district.
Mangochi police public relations officer Rodrick Maida said that after a funeral ceremony of Witness Makiyoni there was supper which was prepared for the 32 victims.
“Then after taking nsima they started opening bowels and vomiting,”
“The situation worsened on February 23, 2020 in which they were rushed to Mangochi District Hospital for treatment,” Maida said.
Maida said the matter is under investigations to find the source of the incident.
