The wait is finally over! Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) Board of Trustees has finally set August 31 as the date for MAM national elections.
The board of trustees said the elections will take place at Comesa Hall in Blantyre starting from 9 am where only national chairman seat is competed on as other seats will go unopposed.
The candidates who are vying for the national chairman are the current national chairman Sheikh Idrissah Muhammad and Dr. Imran Shareef.
This is a second time the two are competing on that position. In 2011, alongside other four candidates, Dr. Shareef failed misery after getting only 23 votes against Sheikh Idrissa’s 129.
On vice Chairman there is one candidate who will go unopposed and this is Sheikh Yusuf Chibwana, Iliasa Abdul Karim will go unopposed as MAM national treasurer while Alhaj Bujad Kalera will go unopposed as Vice Treasurer.
MAM Board of Trustees further requests MAM district and regional committees to send three representatives from each committee to vote for the MAM National Executive Committee.
Furthermore, MAM affiliated organizations are also asked to send one representative to come and vote for this particular day.
Some of the organizations are; Forum for Peace and Justice, Zanzibar Muslim Graduates Association, Alhaq Islamic Trust, Islamic Commission for Justice and Peace, Nikkah and Other Islamic Functions Association, Alhaq Twariq Alqadriah and Mai Aisha Trust.
The Board of Trustees asks both voters and contestants to maintain peace and calm during the voting process for free and fair elections.
