President Arthur Peter Mutharika has called upon the police to investigate all cases of violence and make sure that those perpetrating violence in the name of politics are brought to book.
Mutharika has registered his disappointment with political violence that took place at Msundwe a couple of days ago and the one that occurred in Phalombe and Mulanje where the country’s state president Dr. Saulosi Chilima’s convoy was pelted with stones.
The president says he is informed that the community members of Msundwe who recently defected from the MCP and joining the DPP are being displaced from their homes saying some have had their houses destroyed and are being chased from the community for choosing to support the DPP party describing such a behavior as barbaric.
This is contained in a statement by Mutharika’s press secretary and spokesperson, Mgeme Kalilani.
In a statement, president Mutharika says as a true democrat, he reiterates that politics and political campaigns should be issue- based, devoid of hate speech, tribal profiling and personal attacks.
The president says politics is supposed to be a competition of policies and ideologies, not otherwise, condemning violence in whatever form.
The president is reminding all Malawians that political violence has no place in the country’s democracy, it should be condemned in the strongest terms, registering his concern with the conduct of opposition political party leaders in relation to political violence and hate speech in the country.

President Mutharika is advising all politicians that they should be responsible with their utterances and should avoid deliberately insulting and provoking other people in the name of doing politics.
