The construction of Maternity Wing at Assalam Clinic in Mangochi district is expected to improve maternal health services in the district, Health Experts say.
Doctor Chimwemwe Thambo of Mangochi District Hospital made the remarks during the official launch of a newly constructed Maternity Ward at Assalam Clinic.
Thambo who was also the Guest of Honor said the facility will minimise pressure on Mangochi District Hospital because women will be accessing maternal health services at the clinic.
According to Thambo, the new maternity ward will help to combat deaths (Maternal Mortality Rate) caused when women are delivering in their homes and he revealed that last year, almost 391 expectant mothers passed on for delivering in their respective homes.
Director of Assalam Clinic, Doctor Muhammad Makkawi said the maternity wing is expected to fully provide maternal health services to the people in the area.
