Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance running-mate for the forthcoming fresh presidential election, Atupele Muluzi donated 1 Million Kwacha to Mchengautuwa CCAP of the Livingstonia Synod Church in Mzuzu where he attended prayers on Sunday.

Muluzi donated the money towards development activities at the church and K400, 000 to rejoice Mchengautuwa CCAP Women Choir.

Speaking to congregation, he asked Malawians to desist from politics of castigating one another to avoid political violence.

“I want to ask Malawians to stop politics of castigation as that has the potential to raise political temperature and violence,” said Muluzi.

Quoting John 14 verse 27 where the Bible says ‘Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives,’ the DPP-UDF alliance running mate said peace is fundamental for any nation to develop.

“Jesus Christ did not leave anything to his disciples but peace because he knew that where there is peace everything is possible,” he said.

He said the country has been going through turbulent times for the past 12 months due to political intolerance which has robbed people’s right to enjoy peace.

“We have to be united irrespective of our tribal, political and religious allegiance as we are all Malawians,” he said.

Muluzi said the church has an important role in ensuring that there is always peaceful coexistence amongst Malawians.

“The message from President Prof. Peter Mutharika is that people should be united as the country prepares for the fresh presidential election and people must pray for unity and prosperity for a better Malawi.

Parish Minister for Mchengautuwa CCAP, Reverend Alfred Ntonga advised politicians to be in the forefront condemning any form of violence.

“I appeal to all political leaders to be in the forefront condemning any form of violence taking place across the country because if they don’t, Malawians will feel that the leaders condone such behaviours,” he said.

Ntonga applauded Muluzi for attending the church service saying it was an honour for the church.

Muluzi was accompanied by DPP officials who included Minister of Health and the party’s treasurer general, Jappie Mhango, DDP Vice President for the north, Goodall Gondwe, DPP Regional Governor for the north, Christopher Mzomera Ngwira among others.
