Malawi’s Former President Professor Peter Mutharika says the country needs to desist from tribalism.
Mutharika made the remarks during Mulako wa a Lhomwe underway currently underway in Mulanje district.
Mutharika who is also the leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) says Malawians must not allow politicians to divide them using tribal lines.
The former president says the DPP will hold elections in 2023. “I am still the President of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) until 2023. In 2023 is when the DPP will hold elections to elect new leaders,” he says.
Mutharika says if the DPP wins the case that is in court, he will represent the party during the elections.

Mutharika has asked all members of the DPP to unite for the betterment of the party.
The former Malawi president says soon he will visit the jailed business mogul, Dr. Thomson Mpinganjira at the Chichiri Prison.
Another former President, Dr Bakili Muluzi also attended the function.
