Mangochi-based business tycoon Chimwemwe Sauzande, the owner of SEC Stationery and General Dealers, generously donated a set of football jerseys and a ball to the Mangochi Police Football Team on Friday, July 28, 2023.
The donation came after a request made by the Police Station management last week, seeking a new football kit.
Speaking at the handover ceremony held at the Station’s premises, Mr. Macdonald Aseleka, SEC’s operations manager, stated that they decided to donate the football equipment as an initiative to help keep the officers fit.
“We were delighted to be approached for support. It is a clear indication of the excellent working relationship that exists between us,” Aseleka remarked.
He further acknowledged that Mangochi Police FC is renowned for its activity, which has contributed to the fitness of the officers, thereby helping to deter criminal activities in the area.
Mr. Timothy Phiri, the Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police and Officer In-Charge of Mangochi Police Station, expressed his gratitude to SEC for the timely donation.
“The donation couldn’t have come at a better time, as Mangochi Police is currently one of the competing teams in the ongoing Eastern Region Commissioner’s Trophy,” Phiri stated proudly.
He added, “I’m at a loss for words, and I feel like a proud father seeing my children raise the Mangochi Police flag by winning sporting games. This uniform will undoubtedly boost their morale.”
The handover ceremony was attended by Mangochi Police Operations Officer, Superintendent Billy Chibwe, Station’s Administration Officer, Inspector Percy Chikaonda, Team’s coach, Detective Sergeant Bright Kamanga, and a few players.
