Malawi President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera Thursday, 2nd March, 2023 is leaving the country for Doha, Qatar.
The announcement has been made by the Director of Communications at State House, Sean Kampondeni during a press briefing held today at Kamuzu Palace in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.
According to Kampondeni, the president will chair the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) summit.
The Director of Communications adds the president will also handover the role (Chairman of LDCs) during the summit and he is expected to return home on 14th March, 2023.
Least Developed Countries are low-income countries confronting severe structural impediments to sustainable development. They are highly vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks and have low levels of human assets.
The Director of Communications also added that Chakwera’s led administration is keen to help Malawians who are in dire need of food. He says Government is distributing maize and cash to Malawians in need of food assistance.
Kampondeni who is President Chakwera’s son-in-law has also announced his departure as Director of Communications at State House and says the President is set to announce his replacement soon.
Kampondeni who is also Chakwera’s Executive Assistant has thanked the president, the media and Malawians for allowing him serve in the office. He has not disclosed where he is heading after leaving the State House.
Kampondeni has been the Director of Communications since 2020 when Chakwera became the president. Kampondeni and Chakwera’s working relationship dates back when the president was the opposition leader in Parliament.
