The State Vice President of Malawi Rt Hon. Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima yesterday started engaging parastatals in public reform service and challenged all parastatals to adopt public sector reforms to spur national economic growth.
Speaking after meeting the heads of the parastatals at BICC in Lilongwe, Chilima said the parastatal performance has been a mixed bag hence the Tonse alternative administration expects them to improve going forward.
“I can describe the sector reforms performance as mixed because some have performed while others have not. Now it’s time for parastatals heads to start showing results or leave the stage to those who can perform”
“The new administration will not introduce new reforms, but it will continue with what is being implemented currently with modifications where necessary”,said Chilima.
Chilima also said he will be monitoring and assessing the sectors performance once every 3 months and that there will be consequences for those who will not perform.
The VP added that all parastatals and local councils will be expected to submit reports on progress of reforms and their performance by Friday 17 July, 2020.
