The organizers of the Malawi Muslims Awards (MMA) “The Classic Events” on Saturday donated assorted cleaning materials to Blantyre City Council (BCC) as one way of supporting Keep Blantyre City Clean campaign and Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust.
Classic Events responsible person for Communication and Media Bashir Amin said their organization decided to make the donation worth MK250.000 ($500) which took place at Limbe primary school in Blantyre as part of giving back to the community.
“Classic Events is well known by organizing the Malawi Muslims Awards event and we are here today making this donation to show that we are also ready to take part in any developmental activities for this country. We have brought materials such as shovels, gloves, safety boots and masks,” said Amin.
He also said this was the beginning of this year’s event of Malawi Muslims Awards which took place yesterday at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.
“This is a preamble of Sunday’s event and we have done this on the other hand to show people that this year’s event will be extraordinary. We have prepared enough and I encourage everyone to come and witness the event,” he said.
Asked how the organization mobilized the resources for buying the equipment, the organizer’s responsible for communication said; “We approached Gift of the Givers Foundation to assist us and it’s the only institution which has supported us to present this donation to BCC and we want to thank them for the whole support.”
Concurring with Amin, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for Gift of the Givers Hanif Munthali said their institution is also concerned with the state of Blantyre city hence partnering with Classic Events for the cause..
“We decided to partner with Classic Events after we saw that they have come up with a good idea. It is inline with our policies of giving back to the community and we are also concerned with how our city looks like due to lack of enough materials by the Council,” said Munthali.
In her remarks after receiving the donation, Ward Councilor for Limbe Central Nelie Mseula who represented the Mayor of Blantyre City Noel Chalamanda said they are very grateful with the donation.
“On behalf of the Mayor of Blantyre City Council, let me thank you [Classic Events] for the donation. These items will really assist us in the campaign of Keep Blantyre City Clean. The vision of the First Lady Madam Getrude Mutharika’s Beautify Malawi campaign will also be fulfilled if everyone is taking active part like as this Organization has shown today. I should also thank the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) for their support for allowing these people to make this donation,” said Mseula.
