The new Chairman of the National Muslims Students Association (NAMSA) Hamzah Jasper DAEL from Mzuzu University University (MZUNI) says he is committed to taking the association to greater heights.
Speaking in an interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website after hand over ceremony at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), DAEL says the main reason why former leadership failed to accomplish a lot is that In general NAMSA is neglected by firstly its trustees.
DAEL says the trustees do not show up themselves to fully support the association either financially or by contributing their ideas.
“This makes NAMSA not fulfill its plans. Why? Trustees are those people who can have a good voice out there since we students our voice does not always carry weight. Therefore their negligence towards the association causes a lot of complications. Just imagine during elections we only had one trustee (Dr. Kazembe from LUANAR) yet the association claims to have seven of them and again yesterday’s function we had no trustee who could even talk to us,” the new NAMSA Chairman told Malawi Muslims Official Website.
DAEL says the failure of NAMSA can be said that it is not because of the leaders but rather those who are also required to join their hands and support it.
“We need to consult them (trustees) if they are ready to really offer their services then it is okay with the new executive but if they may still no show any interest, we are planning to change trustees and incorporate those who are willing to work with the NAMSA in complimenting its objectives practically,” he says.
DAEL adds, “We are not approaching them in a way of forcing them to leave their positions but rather asking for their full attention to the association and we will put it in black and white that some failures of the association are there due to their negligence. And we will also ask them, to be frank with us that if they can not offer us their attention then they are the ones to look for us who can play their roles in the association.”
The NAMSA chairperson told Malawi Muslims Official Website that the association has framed some methodologies to source funds for running its activities.
“We are planning of having our own initiative of sourcing funds among ourselves, the students by establishing either monthly or semester contribution by individual Muslim Students Associations (MSAs) towards NAMSA account so that we should be able to start things where ever possible and ask for assistance where we can not proceed on our own, ” he says.
DAEL who is in the second year pursuing a Bachelor of Education-Languages is the first student to become NAMSA Chairman from Mzuzu University.
“It is the first time for this position to reach far North at Mzuzu University. This has happened with the will of Allah (God) through how I convinced people in my Manifesto. Actually, members just wanted to be convinced with our visionary future plans of the association regardless of where we are speaking from,”
“To win hearts of Muslim students, I was the very first person to release manifesto and I sent to some of the institutions. My manifesto contained well-elaborated ten points only. Therefore my rivals couldn’t dare to release theirs since mine reached all crucial angles already,” DAEL told Malawi Muslim Website.
