Suspected DPP- UDF alliance cadets on Wednesday night removed flags for MCP- UTM alliance in Lilongwe ahead of DPP- UDF presidential Running mate, Atupele Muluzi who is set to conduct whistle stops campaign meetings in Lilongwe city enticing voters to vote for President Peter Mutharika.
The cadets were seen using a Lilongwe city council vehicle with some police officers and one of them was leading the cadets climbing up where the flags were erected removing them.
The removing of flags is conciding with DPP- UDF strategy of buying UTM clothes( Zitenje) to be distributed to people pretending to defecting from UTM to join the DPP- UDF alliance which has worked in some districts of the country claiming that they have a large following in the country.
According to the programme, Atupele Muluzi will start his whistle stop campaign with a visit to the popular Mgona township in area 25, Chinsapo secondary school, area 23 old PTC and area 24 sese, covering the whole Lilongwe city with one message, vote for Mutharika.
But, Lilongwe city central constituency legislator, Alfred Jiya has expressed shock and dismay over the conduct of the cadets removing opposition flags describing this as unhealthy democracy which Malawians did not fought for.
Jiya says UTM- MCP are advocating for peace, law and order and are demanding their flags back before Atupele embarks his whistle stop campaign trails and failing which they should read the message on the wall that the owners are not happy..
Atupele Muluzi was on Wednesday booed by people in Salima for campaigning with an envelope carrying Mutharika inside so that people vote for it in the Fresh Presidential Election( FPE) slated for June or July, this year.
Meanwhile, MCP- UTM supporters have vowed to block Atupele from holding successiful whistle stops campaign meetings in Lilongwe should their flags not come to them.
