The Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola has vowed to fire incompetent employees at EGENCO, ESCOM and PML.
Minister Matola issued the warning yesterday at a press briefing on energy crisis rocking the country.
Matola said time is up for incompetent workers at the energy statutory corporations.
“The government of President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will not tolerate workers who are sleeping on their duty.If you are sleeping on duty, I will smoke you out,” he said.
The Minister said current administration is geared to eradicate power challenges rocking the country. Matola was quick to blame the DPP government for not investing a lot in the energy sector.
“The DPP government was not investing in the energy sector that is why we are facing persistent blackouts in the country. The current administration is working on several alternatives to end energy challanges in the country,” Matola said.
Speaking at the same press briefing, Minister of Information and Digitization Gospel Kazako said the unbundling of ESCOM has unleashed all these inefficiencies and persistent blackouts in the country.
“We need to do due diligence on the merits and demerits of the unbundling and find out what is actually happening in the energy sector,”Kazako said.
Meanwhile, the Chakwera administration is banking on the rehabilitation of Kapichira Power Station as a solution to the persistent blackouts. The power station repair works are expected to be completed in December.
