The former Secretary General (SG) of the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) ,Dr. Ronald Mangani has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Malawi’s largest conglomerate, the Press Corporation Plc.
In a statement issued by the company’s Secretary, Ms. Maureen Mbeye, dated 17th February, 2023 , Dr. Mangani’s meritocratic appointment is effective 1st March, 2023.
In a statement, the corporation says Dr. Mangani is expected to use his vast knowledge of economics and finance to discharge duties diligently.
“Dr. Mangani has demonstrable leadership skills having served as Secretary to the Treasury of the Malawi Government between 2014 and 2017. He also chaired the Board of Old Mutual Malawi Limited and served as an independent Director on the Boards of First Capital Bank , the Reserve Bank of Malawi , the Malawi Stock Exchange , MDC Limited and the Malawi Institute of Management among several others,” reads a statement.
Despite being a seasoned economist and academic , Dr. Mangani also served as the Secretary General of the Muslim Association of Malawi after deputizing Brother Yahaya Mmadi.
According to a person who worked with him at MAM, when Mmadi left for Egypt in 1999, the Executive Board appointed Dr. Mangani as Secretary General in December,2000.
“Mangani was the Secretary General of MAM between 2000 and January 2004,” he says.
The new Press Corporation Plc CEO also served as Publicity Secretaray of Public Affairs Committee (PAC) during the period 2000-2003 (He was a board member of PAC representing the Muslim Association of Malawi).
Dr Ronald Mangani is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Malawi (UNIMA).
He graduated from the universities of Malawi, York, and Cape Town. He has held visiting scholar positions at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Institute and the University of Oxford.
