Former president of the republic of Malawi Professor Arthur Peter Muthalika has sent a Condolence message the the current president of Malawi Dr Lazaras Chakwera following the death of two cabinet ministers.
According to the statement posted on his official Facebook page, the former president and the former First Lady are saddened by the untimely demise of two Cabinet Ministers, Hon. Lingson Kambewa Waidon Belekanyama, Minister of Local Government and Hon. Mohammed Sidik Mia, Minister of Transport and Public Works due to COVID-19 related illnesses.
“Our condolences go to the President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, the entire Cabinet, the bereaved families and Malawi as a whole,” reads part of the statement.
Mutharika further says: “The former First Lady and I wish to share with the entire nation that in difficult times as we are passing through, it is important to hold hands despite our differences. Together we can defeat this common enemy that is among us.
“Let me at this time suggest to the leadership and my fellow citizens, that we make the necessary tough decisions that can save ourselves and our nation”.
He also asked Malawians to pray to God for “His healing hand and mercy to take us through this trying period. May God heal our country.”
