“What happens is that when we let our girls marrying at a tender age, we are creating many problems than solutions.”
Member of Parliament (MP) for Mangochi Mkungulu Constituency Honourable Aisha Mambo Adams has asked Muslim women in the country to send their children to school in order to have a brighter Malawi.
Mambo made the call during the opening of this year’s women Ijitma which started on Friday in Chintheche, Nkhata Bay district saying educating children is the only best tool of defeating poverty in the country.
“As women, we always face different challenges in our daily lives but the main source of these challenges is due to lack of education. I would like therefore to ask all women to send their children to school especially girls so that we should change our country as well as our religion of Islam since other people regard Muslims as the most illiterate people in this country,” said the Member of Parliament.
She also advised the women that the government ended the early child marriage with the aim of promoting education to these young stars.
Said the Honourable MP: “Government is trying very hard to provide education to the children especially girls and you can agree with me that the government ended the early child marriage showing its commitment. What happens is that when we let our girls marrying at a tender age, we are creating many problems than solutions.”
Mambo therefore insisted that parents and guardians should say bye to early child marriages.
“If you send her to school that means next time she will be independent. We may allow our girls to get married when they are over 18 years since some of them might have been completed their education otherwise letting your child get married below the age of 18, you will face the law” Mambo Adams concluded.
