The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has pleaded with all Malawians and other stakeholders to respect the rule of law and maintain peace on Monday, 3rd February, 2020 after court ruling on the presidential elections case.
Speaking to the press this morning, HRDC Chairperson Timothy Mtambo urged Malawians to remain calm before, during and after the court verdict.
“As HRDC , we are urging all Malawians to respect the rule of law and there should be peace and unity during this time. Please avoid violence after the court verdict. If not satisfied with the outcome of the court ruling , follow necessary procedures that apply to our laws,”said Timothy Mtambo.
HRDC said it has a lot of respect, trust and confidence in the judicial system and it believes that Judges handling the case will deliver a right verdict on this high profile case.
The coalition has advised all Malawians to follow the court case through reliable media houses to understand all proceedings.
HRDC says it will continue representing the citizens of Malawi and it will call for another press briefing after the court verdict.
UTM and MCP parties are seeking for the nullification of the 21st May, 2016 elections that saw President Peter Mutharika of DPP declared a winner.
