Muslims in Salima can now afford a smile following the opening of Islamic Information Center, after Islamic Information Bureau closed some of its offices in some parts of the country including Salima. The center was initiated by Sheikh Ismael Allan with collaborative efforts and support of the Muslim community at Salima.
Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) National Chairman Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad graced the opening ceremony that took place on Sunday, November 27, 2016.
In his remarks, Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad commended Sheikh Allan and the entire Muslim community in Salima for opening the center. He said this is what Muslims in Malawi need to do if they are to move forward.
“I always say that we all have responsibilities to bring the change we want to see in our Islamic community. This is not the time we rely everything on donors when in fact, we can do some initiatives and programmes ourselves. This is a good gesture by the people of Salima. I like people who take their initiatives. MAM will do its best to support this center in whatever way possible.”
The new Islamic Information Center shares its offices in a building belonging to Lilongwe Islamic Movement located at the heart of Salima town. The centre stocks several new books that contain important information about Islam.
In an interview with Malawi Muslims Official Website, founder of the center Sheikh Ismael Allan said he decided to open the center after witnessing how people suffered following the closure of Islamic Information Bureau in the district.
“So many people have suffered since the closure of the bureau. But I must thank Faisal Kassam, the Founder of Islamic Information Bureau for coming up with such a brilliant idea. It is just sad though that it was closed at a time when people needed it most. At Islamic Information Center, we want to continue enlightening people the importance of Aqeeda (oneness of Allah).
“People will get this by reading a number of books we have and through programs we will be conducting, which most of them will be similar to those of the bureau,” he said.
