People around Chimweta Primary School in Salima Central Constituency have clean water after opening of the well of Wissam Al-Dahabi Al-Masoudi from Tunisia under implementation and supervision of Islamic organisation called Darussunnah Foundation.
The borehole has been drilled after the Member of Parliament (MP) of the constituency, Gerard Kapiseni Phiri requested the organisation for a lot of boreholes in the area.
According to a letter that the MP wrote to the Islamic organisation, the boreholes will benefit several people from two faiths namely Islam and Christian in the area.
“Salima Central Constituency is one of the largest constituencies in Malawi and let alone Salima district with a population of over 200,000 people against a total population of 400,000 for Salima district. The population of my constituency is shared among two major religions i.e Islam and Christianity and they live in harmony,” reads part of a letter.
The MP has asked the Islamic organisation for more boreholes in the area to help people not to suffer from water borne diseases that are caused due to drinking unhygienic water from wells.
The head mistress for Chimweta Primary School Lilian Nkunika also added her voice to request the organisation for the borehole.
The Islamic organisation has drilled several boreholes across the country to help Malawians have hygienic water.
