The minister of information and digitalization, honorable Gospel Kazako says the communication industry in the country can be vibrant if the stakeholders work together in iron out their misunderstandings.
Speaking in Blantyre during the opening ceremony of the regional open days organised in partnership with the Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA), the Minister said recently the communication sector in the country was overwhelmed with some misunderstandings.
“Therefore, these open days are intended to iron out these differences and make sure that the players understand some of the issues in the sector, ” he said
Kazako said the country is in the process of transforming the communication sector, hence, the changes that have brought about some differences in the sector.
He said his ministry is working out on enlightening the stakeholders on some of the changes in the sector so as to bring about sanity and good workmanship.
“We need to play our roles in accordance with the communication act to bring about efficiency and fair play than ever before,” said Kazako
On the other hand,the minister disclosed that the government will soon procure machines that will help to detect the mobile money fraudsters in the country.
Among others, he said every phone will be registered with the machines to protect Malawians fromfraudsters.
“This security initiative will also help us to collect enough taxes as we moving away from the paper economy to the digital economy just like other successful countries,” he disclosed.
In a separate interview, Mervis Selemani, a prospective communication invester in Thyolo district asked MACRA to level the playing field for the country to realise a vibrant communication sector.
She said MACRA should be transparent and uphold the rule of law whenever carrying out its roles.
“Potential investors should be encouraged to invest in the sector through conducive environment than scare away their interest,” she said.
MACRA was established to regulate and monitor the provision of the communication sector in the country.
