Malawian Muslims have been urged to embrace the spirit of contributing in monetary form towards the realization of projects that we will make Muslims feel life at ease.
The call has been by the National Chairman of Muslims Association of Malawi MAM sheikh Idrissa Muhammad during the official opening of this year’s nation Islamic Ijtima on Saturday.
He said much as Muslims have been complaining of having few schools and health service centres just to mention a few, but wondered why the association received ant contribution from Muslims towards the construction of some of these vital structures.
Two years ago MAM asked Muslims across the nation to be contributing one kwacha every month towards the construction of a health and education facilities. But since that time, no single Muslim has responded towards the noble cause.
“As MAM, we have made several initiatives in realizing these dreams. We have been moving up and down lobbying donors as well as relevant authorities in the country so that we have our high learning facilities and hospitals. And I am pleased to inform you that our donors from Kuwait have approved the budget and we will be commence the construction of the university since the government has already given us an approval on the same ,” he said adding “but this is what we as MAM are doing, what about you on your own? You have to contribute so that we can make this dreams come true.”
The Chairman said the contribution, can be made by district and those funds will be used to construct the structures in those areas.
It is a good news to all Muslims in Malawi when we are about to realize a long awaited dream. Really MAM has done its part but we have to remember that even though we are complaining about less structures, we are failing to manage them. You will see that most Islamic secondary schools are facing countless challenges ranging from low salary and poor administration.
If we pay less care to already existing challenges, the new university and hospital will not be free from these drawbacks. Let us unite and identify the source of our challenges and vanguish them prematurely to avoid resurfacing on the new development.
As Muslims, one kwacha isnt enough. If it is the same amount, then lets make it each month. The number of Muslims is almost half the total population which means we can contribute nearly 6 million each month. Each year realising 72 million Kwacha. I think we can easily solve our problems despite the donors. We have to abstain from inserting ourselves in the group of the needy when actually we are not
Good initiative, I support the move, however, I have the following observations;
Such kind of requests are not formal, how are people going to contribute the money? Is it in the MAM’s Strategic Plan? what about strategies to implement that?
What are Financial Management systems in place to safeguard the money and other resources,
Mr Chairman, Sheikh, you said you have secured money for the University from Kuwait, how much is that?
Unless you are open, accountable and strategic we will not achieve anything even if we can secure millions
