Malawi president, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is currently in China says he has discussed trade with Chinese Vice President , Han Zheng.
“Following our arrival in China earlier in the day, I have held an audience with Right Honourable Han Zheng, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China as part of our side-line bilateral engagements at the 3rd China – Africa Economic and Trade Expo,” the president wrote on his official Facebook page.
Chakwera says the discussions centred around strengthening of diplomatic ties, bolstering trade and courting more Foreign Direct Investment into Malawi’s economy.
“I have highlighted to our hosts key developments in sought of financial assistance for us to bring forth the much desired socioeconomic development. These include the construction of Lambilambi Dam; the Lilongwe Water Programme and the construction of Lower Fufu Hydro-electric Power Plant,” he says.
Chakwera adds:”We intend to sustain these talks over the next few days to explore more of the vast potential for further and more comprehensive trade exploration between the two nations.”
Chakwera was accompanied by Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Sosten Gwengwe, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo and Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale among others.
