Thursday, 27th April, 2023, Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola and Minister of Mining, Monica Chang’anamuno were hosted by Mozambique’s Ministry of Minerals Resources and Energy to discuss the future of energy and mining sector in the two neighbouring countries.
“Today (yesterday) , April 27, 2023, we had a fruitful meeting comprising of delegation from Malawi and Mozambique at the Ministry of Minerals Resources and Energy offices in Mozambique. I was accompanied by Minister of Mining, Honourable Chang’anamuno,”
“The Minister of Minerals Resources and Energy, Hon. Carlos Zacarias hosted us as part of the sideline events for the 9th edition of the Mozambique Mining and Energy conference which was taking place in Maputo from April 27 to April 28, 2023,” Matola wrote on his official Facebook page.
According to the Minister, It was truly an exciting moment for both parties to come together and discuss mutual interests in the mining and energy sector.
“Our discussions were focused on progress made regarding joint projects between our two countries, as well as exploring new areas for collaboration – particularly in power generation and mining. We discussed new possible areas of collaboration especially in power generation among other sectors,” he said.
Matola added : ” We reminded each other that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and H.E Filipe Nyusi have high expectations from us but I am optimistic that with continued collaboration between our two nations, we can exceed those expectations and make significant strides towards sustainable development in our region.”
Matola said the meeting was important knowing that working together toward sustainable development initiatives designed, can benefit both countries in a long run.
“I am thrilled to say that tremendous strides have been made on all fronts including but not limited to; Mozambique-Malawi Inter-connector scheduled for launch this December,” Matola said.
